We are diligent in creating and maintaining an environment to protect the health of our staff and our clients. We are not into simply "green-washing" in order to appear healthy - we really, genuinely want to address the true issues of toxins in beauty services and products and offer real, genuine and safe alternatives. Many people with chemical sensitivities seek out Melange Salon & Spa so that they too can enjoy the experience of being pampered without feeling unwell afterward. We do our best to make it a pleasant and satisfying experience for all people. Chemical sensitivities are vast and very unique to the individual. While it is virtually impossible to be "purist" about all of the harmful toxins used in cosmetics and personal care products, we do make it our goal to find products that are devoid of the most harmful ingredients while still having products that work well.

 | Segals Solutions. It was during a safari vacation in the early 1970's
when Lou Segal made his discovery. He came upon a number of tribes
performing rituals and noticed that particular group had thick, strong
healthy heads of hair. "I found out that this one group applied a
mixture of plants, roots & leaves to their heads and their faces and
would wait for the moon to come out," the elder Segals explains. "The
reason was that they felt the moon would absorb & cleanse their
souls of all the evil spirits through the medium of this earthy
botanical mixture. What they didn't realize was that they were
unknowingly giving themselves the best hair & scalp treatment nature
has to offer. Mr. Segal asked the tribe's chief to give him a sample of the mixture which he took back to his laboratory in Cape Town for analysis. He incorporated his findings into his scalp formulas, shampoos and conditioners. His new products met with surprising results with many people reporting drastic reductions in hair loss and even new hair growth. But as increasing political uncertainty grew in South Africa, Mr. Segal decided it would be best for his family to leave the country. "I am fortunate to have access to my fathers formula," son Darryl says. "And as a pharmacist, and being fascinated with the results people were receiving from the product for so many years, my life long commitment is to improve on the formula and make it available to as many people as possible."  | SpaRitual products are free of formaldehyde, a cancer-causing chemical
(used to strengthen nails); toluene, a petroleum-based ingredient that
can damage the nervous system (used to help polish dry faster); and
dibutyl phthalate or DBP, a chemical that has been linked to birth
defects (used to make nail polish flexible). No animals or animal
byproducts are used in the formulation or testing of SpaRitual products.
They are committed to creating ecologically favorable products,
including bottles made from reusable, recyclable glass, soy-based inks
and FSC-certified paper. The ingredients include specially selected
plant essences that are wild crafted and organic. |
 | We want to assure you that OPI is committed to the safety of our
consumers and of Beauty Professionals. Since 2006, OPI has reformulated
its entire line of Nail Lacquers, Nail Treatments, and Nail Hardeners to
eliminate DBP (dibutyl phthalate) and Toluene. Formaldehyde has never
been an ingredient in OPI Nail Lacquers or Nail Treatments. Some OPI
Nail Hardeners do contain formaldehyde (which we at Melange do not use
or advocate), while others are formulated without it to give consumers a
choice. OPI continues to search for effective alternates to
formaldehyde. |
